History of AhmedabadAhmedabad seems like a kaleidoscope; it is both ancient and modern. On the one hand, it has spiritual peace and tranquility, but on the other hand it also has a busy modern life. Gandhi Ashram on the banks of Sabarmati River is the symbol of spiritual roots of India. Nowadays Ahmedabad is bustling with life and business activities.

Ahmedabad is also known for premier educational institutes of India, such as the Indian Institute of Management. If we look to the history, Ahmedabad was the biggest city in terms of area in the pre-British era till Calcutta and Madras Presidency were set up.
In the beginning of 11th century Ahmedabad region was ruled by Bhil king, who was later on defeated was the Solanki ruler of Patan. After 13th century, it fell into the hands of Vaghela dynasty of Dholka. After 13th century entire Gujarat became a part of Delhi Sultanate. It was named as Ahmedabad by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411. After 1573 Gujarat came under the Mughal rule of Emperor Akbar. People of Ahmedabad are known to have business acumen and that's reason it is considered to be a prosperous city since the beginning.
Festivals and Must See Places
The International Kite Festival is held here on January 14 every year; it coincides with the famous Indian festival of Makar Sankranti. Navratri with garba dance is also a famous tourist attrction. A Rath Yatra is organized in the months of June or July from Jagannath temple in Ahmedabad. It is in the form a procession with a lot of fanfare. The must see religious places of Ahmedabad are Hutheesing Jain Temple, Sidi Sayeed Masjid, Jama Masjid, Mahudi Jain Temple, and Akshardham.
The places of archaeological importance are the walled city and gates, Heritage Walk, Rani no Hajiro, Badshah no Hajiro, Pols of Old City, Dada Harir Vav (Stepwell), Jhulta Minara, The Adalaj Stepwell, Sarkhej Roza, and the House of Mangaldas Girdhardas. The other must see places are Vechaar Utensils Museum, Calico Museum & Sarabhai Foundation, Sanskar Kendra, Institute of Indology, N C Mehta Gallery, Shreyas Folk Museum, Hussain Doshi's Gufa, CEPT Campus, Kanoria Center for Arts, Hutheesing Visual Arts Centre, Community Science Center, Sardar Patel Museum, Science City, and Auto World. Kankaria Lake is also worth visiting.

The population of Gujarat is 60,383,628 (2011 census) and the state covers an area of 1, 96,024 sq km and shares its border with the states of Rajasthan , Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra . The state has a literacy rate of 79.31 percent. Gujarat is the 7th largest state in India in terms of area. The 196,024 sq kms of area in the state is divided into 26 districts at present. The state of Gujarat had 17 districts when it was formed in the year 1960, but now there are 33 Districts. All the northern districts of the Bombay, which was a state in its own till then, were a part of Gujarat after 1960.
Gujarat Districts Facts
The biggest district in the State of Gujarat in terms of area is Kutch District which has Bhuj as its city headquarters. The district covers 45,652 sq kms of the total area in the state and the population density in the district is that of 33.
Gandhinagar is the smallest district in terms of area in Gujarat. The total area covered by the district is merely 649 sq kms. This added to the presence of Gandhinagar, the state capital after which the district is named makes it, the district with most population density. Total population in the district is 1,387,478.
The most populated of all the districts in the state is the Ahmedabad District which also is the 8th most populous district in India. The district shares its borders with Mehsana in the North, Surendranagar in the West, Kheda in the East and Bhavnagar in the South.
Dang district is the least populated district in the state. Around 226,769 people live in the district as per the census 2011.The district extends to 1764 sq km in area.
Valsad district is located to the Southern most end of the state of Gujarat and it has covers an area of around 3034 sq km in the state of Gujarat. The Valsad district shares its border with Navsari District to the North.
Navsari district is located in an area of 2211 sq km.
Jamnagar district located on the Southern Coast of the state of Gujarat covers an area of around 14125 sq km

The Banaskantha is also first District having highest Cold Supply Chain of Milk by installing 1280 Bulk Milk Chilling units procuring almost >90% milk as Raw Chilled Milk & rest 10% in Cans. Banaskantha District having 1060 Village Dairy Coop. Societies certified as per ISO 9001 : QMS Standard. The district ranks first in the state in the production of vegetables contributing nearly 17.67% to the total vegetable production of Gujarat. It is the largest producer of potatoes in the state. Bajri, Maize, Tobacco, Castor oil, Jowar, Psyllium are the other major crops of the district. It is also one of the leading producers of Isabgul (Psyllium husk) in the country. It is also the 3rd largest producer of oil seeds in the state after Junagadh district and Jamnagar district.
The district has rich mineral reserves including limestone, marble, granite, building stone and china clay. It accounts for almost the entire marble reserves (99.3%) of Gujarat and contributes about 15% to the total production of limestone in the state.
